The VCAPS Study 1 aims to characterize respiratory symptoms and smoking behaviors at four levels of the Vietnamese health care system. The study has completed baseline data collection, and follow-up is now proceeding. 1404 participants have been recruited at 71 sites. Among those recruited, 85% has been followed up at 3 months and 81% have reached the 6 month follow up up to Oct 15th, 2018.
The VCAPS 2 study involves qualitative evaluation of chronic lung disease management and tobacco control within the heatlh system. We have conducted 41 in-depth interviews on smoking cessation and COPD/asthma management. We are also collecting data about tobacco control practices within health facilities, and among health workers. This work will be completed at the end of October 2018.
Both VCAPS 1 and VCAPS 2 are carried out in 4 provinces of in 4 cities Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Ca Mau, Thanh Hoa. Currently, the research team is preparing for the launch of VCAPS 3 which is a pilot for the main RCT study. The study on integrated public health strategy to manage chronic respiratory disease and reduce smoking will be held in three rural district of Hanoi.
